Day 18, Missoula, MT

July 9, 2008: Missoula, Montana, USA

This is an old pic from the Google maps “street view” 360 degree feature, but the current KOA campground is much updated compared to this, and it’s a nice, neat and well-run facility. (You can click and drag the picture around 360 degrees, if you wish)

This morning, we headed out to the local Kawasaki dealership, and asked them to test and see if they could find the cause of the problem with both Jaryd’s and my bikes, and to give us a quote for the labor to change the tires over to the street tires. They clearly took some advantage of our situation, and I ended up paying around $200 to change the 4 tires, and around $300 for them to test the bikes, but with the end result that they said they could find nothing wrong! This is the reason I generally keep well away from dealerships, with this being the first service visit for any of my many motorcycles over the last 30 years.

So, with the problem not being resolved, but according to the dealer, no symptoms reoccurring, we headed back to the campground, where Mike decided that due to the minimal time he has left, he needed to head home solo, while Jaryd and I decided to stay another night and head out in the morning.

We said goodbye to Mike, and wished him well for his long trip home, and then paid for the extra night at the KOA.

Jaryd and I went off to the local store and purchased some swim suit (note that Americans look at us South Africans in total confusion and amusement, if we use the South African term swimming “costume” instead of “swim suit!” :) )

We had a nice swim in the KOA pool, and generally hung around until bed time, to get an early night for the long haul home again tomorrow.
